Scenes From a Late Summer Garden

Today is the first official day of fall, right? Our garden seems to be a late bloomer, which is nice, but we feel like we have more flowers in bloom now than we did all summer. We've got passion flowers, geraniums, morning glory among others. My absolute favorite is that flowering vine growing up the cables on the back of the house. It really took off this summer!

Very pretty. You have more blooming than me right now. I think the vine climbing up the house is autumn clematis...is it? I have one and it is blooming right now. It gets a little crazy and I have to prune it within an inch of it's life every spring or it takes over the porch roof. Is the red flower Cardinal Flower? It is pretty. Very nice.

It is actually Silver Lace, but I totally want an autumn clematis. Is it to late to plant one this late in the year? The combination can look stunning if mixed with a purple clematis as well. the weight will probably bring the cables down though. Time to climb that roof top.

Fall is actually the best time to plant perennials/shrubs/trees as long as they have a few weeks to get some roots established before the ground totally freezes. And all the garden centers offer deep discounts....soooo tempting. I NEED more clematis.
